When he was ransomed out of the country of Romania for $10,000 in 1965,secret police warned him never to speak against the Communists, but Pastor Wurmbrand could not remain silent. Within days of his arrival in the West, he wrote what many later called “the book that shocked the world”: Tortured for Christ.

In this important work, Pastor Wurmbrand documented how he and other Romanian believers met secretly for worship and fellowship and took great risks to evangelize the occupying Russian soldiers. Despite being tortured and imprisoned for fourteen years for his obedient witness, he shared a message of Christ’s love and forgiveness to his persecutors. “I love the Communists with all of my heart,” he wrote. “Communists can kill Christians but they cannot kill their love toward even those who killed them.”
